A remarkable show, not only for children; full of poetry and humour, told through the simple language of body and objects.

Let the actors take you on a trip through this moving and humorous play.

FINDING JOY VAMOS THEATRE

IMBALANCE JOLI VYANN

The highly skilled Joli Vyann present Imbalance in collaboration with internationally renowned choreographer Jonathan Lunn.

Produced by Turtle Key Arts.

Combining exciting acrobatic skills and athletic dance, this energetic, thought-provoking performance explores our obsessive dependence with technology, asking whether our lives are in or out of balance.

It's rare nowadays not to log in at every opportunity – the breakfast table, nights out with friends, even in bed! How well connected are you? When and how do we separate ourselves from the virtual chaos surrounding us?

THE WILDS BURKI&COM

The Wilds: The Vanity of Plumage is a grotesque essay on the beauty and guile of nature in all of us, on missing heroes and narcissism, on the fight for survival and the intraspecific aggression that drives us forward in the form of personal ambitions and conditioned dreams of happiness.

Through motion visualization, uniquely beautiful basic reflexes, motivational processes and intuitive behaviour, Jana Burkiewiczová leads us into a paradise where dancing creates silence, screams, pleasure and the omen of death in a fast sequence of situations, texts and images.

WAITING FOR DADO DADO

DADO delights the audience with his silent clown character Mon Oncle le bossu.

This loveable hunchback brings comedy and emotion on stage.

Mon Oncle performs a potpourri of magic, improvisation and physical comedy.

He can swallow ping-pong balls, balloons and poodles. Eventually everyone is so enamoured with him it doesn’t matter how absurd his art becomes.

Let your heart soar and mind open to the madness of Mon Oncle le bossu.

M.I.S. - ALL NIGHT LONG DON GNU

DON GNU are decked out in hand-knit socks and worn-out sandals and on the hunt for that dang thing called self. In a hard-boiled mix of jackass stunts, slapstick comedy and raw physicality, three men start their hunt.

Outside their comfort zone and coming to grips with their inner beast, the Latino lover, the pushover, the best buddy and others enter a quiet battle for man’s right to be himself.

WE SHALL OVERCOME - PETE SEEGER EIN INSZENIERTES KONZERT VON HEINER KONDSCHAK

BACKBONE

Up close, sweaty, sexy, utterly charming, and contagiously joyful: the Australian circus company Gravity & Other Myths took the world by storm with their first show A Simple Space.

Now the young company sets out to do the same with their new production Backbone, which will have its European premiere at Ruhrfestspiele.

Backbone (literally) tosses around the perception of what strength is, where it comes from and how it is measured. This frenetic celebration of human interconnectedness will test the limits of strength: physical, emotional, individual and collective.

DAKHLA VON ABOU LAGRAA

The title of this brand-new choreography by Abou Lagraa refers to the arab word dahkla which means entrance. Four artists – two hip-hop dancers and two contemporary dancers – take us on a powerful trip to three seaports: Hamburg, Algiers and New York.

The choreography is like a journey from Europe to Africa by way of the American continent. These homeports are an invitation to discover three emblematic cities: white Algiers, brazen New York that never sleeps and Hamburg, which has one of the biggest European electronic music scenes. The music of these different cultures will play a crucial role in the performance, ranging from the Arab-Andalusian music of Algiers, to DJ Mike Denhert from Berlin, or the musical madness of New York in the 80s. Dahkla is a quartet in which French-Algerian choreographer Abou Lagraa returns to the fusion of contemporary and hip-hop dance that is so iconic for his style.

His dancers are as diverse as Lagraa himself, hailing from Algeria, Reunion Island, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Lebanon or Italy.

LEGO/ANTITESI

Aterballetto, one of the most renowned dance companies in Italy, comes to Ruhrfestspiele for the first time. Two choreographers, one starting out, the other internationally acclaimed, present works that represent their home: Antitesi by Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis and Lego by the Italian Giuseppe Spota. The fascinating tension of opposites is the theme of Antitesi: masculine and feminine, local and global, slow and fast, concrete and abstract. According to Foniadakis, his choreography is an expression of his own inner conflicts.

TOD VON WOODY ALLEN

Woody Allen’s play Death is full of anarchy and absurd comedy. Its humour close to the Marx Brothers exposes dimwits and populist madness.

HERMANN UND DOROTHEA VON JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE

The theatrical reading of Goethe’s epic Hermann and Dorothea is performed by Maria Happel and Martin Schwab, both highly acclaimed stars of the Burgtheater ensemble. Together, they bring Goethe’s lyrical, musical language to life. The epic tale about flight, assimilation and integration has an almost frightening topicality.

HOOL NACH DEM ROMAN VON PHILIPP WINKLER

Hool is one of the most talked about German novels of the last year.

Philipp Winkler’s story takes us inside the mind of football hooligans.

Disturbingly realistic and enthralling, this book has been waiting for its stage adaptation. Following Rocco und seine Brüder, Hool is Lars-Ole Walburg’s second production opening at Ruhrfestspiele.

He is the artistic director of Schauspiel Hannover.
